About
the CIty of Guelph
Located
just 100 km west of Toronto, the City of Guelph is a rapidly
growing city of well over 100,000 residents. Diversity, employment,
education and a strong economy are leading the way to a healthy
and prosperous community.
Guelph
was officially founded in 1827, by John Galt of the Canada
Company. Since that time, the city of Guelph has become well
known for it's impressive architecture, beautiful parks and
greenspaces, and as a vibrant cultural and arts community.
The city
has seen an impressive growth over the past decade. According
to the Statistics Canada latest census, Guelph is the 3rd
fastest growing city in Canada! The most recent data, marks
an 11% population increase between 1996 and 2001. Uniquely
positioned in the heart of Ontario's strongest economic region,
these numbers continue to rise each and every year.
Guelph
has also been recently voted #1 for cities of our size by
the International Awards for Liveable Cities. This is attributed
to a wide range of affordable housing, a full spectrum of
community services and yet the feel of a safe, secure small
town.
